چکیده

This paper deenes my depth area for the AI qualifying exam. In the next paragraphs I will give an intensional deenition. Following that will be a roughly-grouped list of papers which form a corresponding extensional deenition for the area. The goal of building an intelligent agent is almost synonymous with the goal of building an artiicial intelligence. This depth area scopes that to managable size by surveying systems which attempt to incorporate agents directly in service of a user's needs. This excludes much of the distributed AI (DAI) literature, where agents are used to make a problem more manageable by breaking it up into pieces. This area focuses on whatever AI components of complete systems which comprise agents, rather than focusing on speciic AI technologies and all their possible extensions. For example, machine learning is an important component in many of the papers listed below, but never is PAC learning mentioned. Finally, the emphasis on user interface has brought in some work from outside of the traditional realm of AI (e.g. from ACM TOIS). It is important to examine this work for two reasons. First, it is often work done by people from outside the AI community, with diierent (typically more pragmatic) ideas about what agents are and can be { we can learn from them. Second, it is sometimes the case that people make claims about AI outside of AI that would not be acceptable in AI journals (e.g. we expect a full speech recognition interface for this in the next release) { we should correct them.

A New Single-Display Intelligent Adaptive Interface for Controlling a Group of UAVs

The increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or drones in different civil and military operations has attracted attention of many researchers and science communities. One of the most notable challenges in this field is supervising and controlling a group or a team of UAVs by a single user. Thereupon, we proposed a new intelligent adaptive interface (IAI) to overcome to this challenge. ...

An Intelligent Computer Interface Utilizing Parallel Picocontrollers (TECHNICAL NOTE)

The design of an interface unit is described, in which RS232 serial data is converted to latched parallel data on 22 independent lines. The data direction of each line is programmable through the serial port. Two picocontrollers are employed in a parallel processing mode to give the required number of I/O pins, and data on the shared serial line is coded to separate data streams to the individu...

Intelligent Interface Agents Behavior Modeling

In this article we propose a methodology for implementing the behaviour of intelligent interface agents using a BDI (Believes, Desires, Intentions) model. This work is based on the architecture presented in (Garijo et al. 98). We aim to show that BDI schemes applied to intelligent interface agents design produce robust and intuitively designed applications. This work has been applied to a fully...

A Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents

Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....

On Intelligent Interface Agents for Human Based Computation

In this paper a new type of interface agent will be presented. This agent is oriented to model systems for human based computation. This kind of computation, that we consider a logical extension of intelligent agent paradigm, emerges as valid approach for the resolution of complex problems. Firstly an study of the state of the art of interface agents will be review. Next, human based computatio...

Rapid Development of Intelligent Agents in First/third-person Training Simulations via Behavior-based Control

First/third-person training simulations in virtual environments have become increasingly used; however, authoring intelligent virtual agents to populate these environments presents a large authorial burden. Our work focuses on building tools to enable rapid creation of intelligent agents for first/third-person game-like environments that enable users with no programming knowledge to develop int...
